Cruise Review – Princess Cruise Lines’ Ruby Princess
Caribbean Itinerary
As Princess Cruise Lines’ newest ship, Ruby Princess calls
Port Everglades her winter home. She is sailing one winter itinerary and
that is the Western Caribbean.

Ruby Princess at Anchor in Princess Cay
From Port Everglades, Ruby Princess traveled the 735
nautical miles to Ochos Rios in Jamaica. When we left Florida, the weather
was cold and windy – not conducive to sunning on the deck so we took
advantage of this time to orient ourselves with the ship. Day 2 was a sea
day – again cool and windy.
We arrived in Ocho Rios in the morning of Day 3 to find that the temperature
had warmed up, but there was almost steady rain. We did a tour by taxi and
of course did some mandatory shopping :-).
Day 4 found us in Grand Cayman some 254 nautical miles from Jamaica. This is
when the warm winter break really began. We tendered in (small boat
shuttles) to the pier at George Town. Here, we started with some shopping
and later took a taxi to one of the fabulous beaches. We had a great time
swimming, snorkeling and soaking up the sun in the 77 degree temperature.

From Grand Cayman we sailed approximately 328 nautical miles to Cozumel. As
we exited the pier, there was a large shopping area with some performers
putting on displays of Mayan dance rituals. We passed through this area to
hit the next beach. Again we had great weather – 81 degrees.
Day six was another sea day. This time however you could easily sit on deck
and enjoy the warm sunshine. There were a number of onboard activities as
always on sea days. And this night was the second formal night with lobster
on the menu - aaaahhhhh…
Day seven found us in Princess Cay on Eleuthera Island in the Bahamas chain.
We had sailed about 803 nautical miles since we had left Cozumel. This day
would be the most wonderful day of our cruise. Princess Cruise Lines has a
private beach area here which is very well set up and organized. There were
plenty of chairs on the beaches. Some of the Princess crew came on shore to
set up and man the two buffet lunch pavilions. The water was crystal clear
and there were coral reefs near shore for snorkeling. We hated to leave this
island paradise, especially knowing that this was the last day of our
cruise.
Overall, this was a fantastic cruise itinerary – especially for beach bums
like us. Ocho Rios was very disappointing but the rest of the stops were
fabulous. The snorkeling was unbelievable. I have taken tours to do
snorkeling where I have seen much less than we enjoyed right from the
beaches on this cruise. (Make sure you check out our article on the
snorkeling and sea creatures that we saw.) Also check out our review of the
