One of the best cruise shore trips available to tropical beaches is
offered by Holland America Cruise Lines to their private island Half Moon
Cay!
If you're looking for cruise shore trips to tropical
beaches, look no further than Holland America Cruise Lines. Holland
America's private Caribbean island resort Half Moon Cay has shore trips
available on most of their Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries. This
shore excursion offers a large variety of activities for young and old
alike.
In a news release on November 16 2004, HAL unveiled even more activities
added to a trip to the shores of the tropical beach. Their "Signature of
Excellence" initiative adds shore adventure excursions like Swimming on
Horseback, and a Stingray Adventure.
The Half Moon Cay shore trip resort area is located on 55 acres of the 2,400
acre Little San Salvador Island, an international bird sanctuary in the
Bahamas. Purchased in 1997, the shore trip island is about a hundred miles
southeast of Nassau. Pirates, who once cruised the Caribbean, used the
island as a refuge. Now the island shores are a refuge for nesting
waterfowl.
Having a shore line of tropical white sand beaches in a crescent-shape, one would think
that the Caribbean cruise islands' name was derived from that
formation. In fact, the name comes
from Henry Hudson's ship the "Half Moon", which is also part of Holland
America's logo. Hudson, although an Englishman, was hired by the Dutch on
the third cruise of his four great voyages.
There are various shore beach rentals available at tropical Half Moon Cay. Cabana
rentals will keep a cooling cover over your head while on shore. For
"water-baby" cruisers, water floats, windsurfers, view boards and snorkel
gear are all offered. And for the shore trip that requires more boating, one
can rent kayaks, Aqua cycles, sunfish sail boats, and hobie catamaran sail
boats. Rentals start at about $6.00 and can run to $220.00 or more for the
cabanas.
A large number of excursion trips are offered as well. Boat snorkeling or
tank diving may be the trip of a lifetime for you. Perhaps Deep Sea Fishing
or Flats Fishing is your idea of an excellent cruise side trip. You may wish
to take part in the Eco Lagoon Tour or the Nature Walk shore excursions.
Would a shore trip including a Glass Bottom Boat ride appeal to you? Or
perhaps your trip would include a Tropical Kayak Adventure.
And if you prefer a more relaxed shore trip itinerary to Half Moon Cay, you
can stroll the shoreline or the boardwalks. Of course the tropical beaches beckons to
all who arrive to the shores. There are bars, and shopping, and
entertainment to enhance your shore trip experience.
If there is a downside to this shore trip, it would be getting to the shore
from the cruise ship!
One must "tender" to the shore pier. For me however, this would just be
another interesting part of the shore excursion experience. If, however, the
waters become too rough, the shore trip to Half Moon Cay could be cancelled.
And, one must be patient in getting on a tender for shore because of the
sheer number of passengers wanting to get started on their exciting shore
activities.
