Eastern Caribbean Shore Excursions - December 05 to December 12, 2004
Holland America Lines Oosterdam cruise ship
First, let me start by saying that each cruise line, and
cruise ship may have - and likely will have - a different group of shore
excursions available as well as different ports-of-call. The prices quoted
here were for our Oosterdam cruise and are likely to change often.
Phillipsburg, St Maarten
French side explorer cruise and Grand Island excursion - 4
hrs.
Scenic drive from Phillipsburg to Simpson Lagoon, board restroom equipped
double-decker covered "Explorer" cruise to Marigot Marina Royale 90 minutes
in Marigot to browse. Scenic a/c bus ride back.

French connection sea and see excursion- 3.5 hrs
Phillipsburg to Grand Case for semi-submersible, stops at Marigot for 45
minutes, back to Phillipsburg. A/C bus.

The butterfly farm and island tour - 3.5 hrs.
Great narrated excursion from Phillipsburg to French side. Includes 45 minute
entertaining & informative guided tour of the butterfly farm, 45 minute stop
in Marigot. Learn about the Dutch and French sides. A/C bus.

Natural wonders of St. Maarten & zoo excursion- 3.5 hrs.
Eco tour. Stop at St Maarten Park small zoo (80 species of mammals, birds,
monkeys etc.) Also narrated scenic ecology tour. A/C bus.

Around the island and art excursion - 4 hrs.
Scenic drive to French side. Visit different artists' studios such as
Francis eck, Minquet, Marie Moine, Ruby Bute or Donna Bryhill. A/C bus

Travel 1 hour Phillipsburg to Marigot (Capitol of French Side). Stop 45

French Riviera beach rendezvous - 4.5 hrs.
Transfer to Orient Bay (French Riviera of the Caribbean) European style
clothing optional beach - 5 Star excursion. Lunch included.

This was our chosen tour. The beach was beautiful and
very scenic from every angle. The beach was well organized for shore
excursion groups.
The cove is protected by a small rocky island. Looking back from the water,
the hills rose from the beach area. The water was a little rough the day we
were there, but I still found it hard to come out of the water to eat the
provided lunch. We had plenty of time to spend in Phillipsburg on our return
to the Dutch side before tendering back to the Oosterdam.
St. Maarten beach bash excursion- 3 hrs.
Afternoon transfer to Orient Beach with unlimited rum punch at the beach.
Same beach as above.

America's Cup regatta - 3 hrs.
Sail a genuine 12 metre America's Cup yacht. No sailing experience required
for this excursion.

Golden Eagle catamaran sail to Tintamar excursion- 4 hrs.
Includes snorkeling equipment. Tantamar Island is on the French side and
clothing optional.

Rhino Rider tour by personal watercraft excursion- 3 hrs.
2 person crafts. Must be 18 to operate boat. Must swim 10 yards before
touching bottom.

Lagoon kayaking adventure excursion- 3.5 hrs.
Narrated bus ride to Simpson Bay Lagoon. Scenic kayak across the lagoon.

Hidden Forest adventure hike excursion and French Marigot - 3.5 hrs.
Mostly uphill hike at Lottery Farms. 1 hour hike in rain forest. Also stop
45 minutes in Marigot at open market.

Fun truck tour from Phillipsburg to Marigot. Stop for 30 minutes. Orient
Beach stop for 40 minutes. Inclusive bar with water, canned soft drinks and

Travel caravan style on mostly roads. 60 minutes at beach. 30 minutes in
Marigot. Ft Louis for 15 minutes. Beach 60 minutes. Driver must be 22 with

No experience needed. Minimum age of 10 years.

Roadtown, Tortola BVI
We did not take an excursion here. This was a mistake as there was not much to do
or see while wandering around Roadtown. The scenery from the ship was
magnificent.
Virgin Gorda and the baths excursion - 4 hrs.
Ferry direct from ship's side. Open safari to beach. Footpath to bath
downhill & uneven. Snorkel equipment for rent at beach.

The north shore and Pusser's Landing excursion- 3.5 hrs.
Beautiful views, Pusser's Landing Yacht Marina (shops). Open safari bus.

Half Moon Cay, Bahamas
(Holland America's private island. We were unable to
tender to the island because of rough seas. This was definitely a let down
as I am a water sports fanatic.)
Stingray adventure tour excursion- 1 hr.
Educational encounter with southern stingrays that make their home at Half
Moon Cay. Short tram ride to Stingray Cove. Safety briefing. Snorkel gear
provided. Wading area. Touch and feed the amazing creatures.

Horseback riding by land and sea excursion- 1 ¼ hrs.
Saddle up & enjoy a trail ride along pathways to the island's high point for
a panoramic view. Back to the corral for a refreshment while the horses are
dressed in "water saddles" for horseback ride in the ocean. Minimum age of
12.

Aqua Trax adventure excursion- 1 hr. ( 30 min. on watercraft)
Guided tour on personal watercraft in Bone fish Lagoon. Minimum age 16 and
must bring driver's license.

Parasailing - 1 hr. (5-7 minutes in the air)
Soar 450 feet above the island. Take off and land from back of speedboat.

Historic Nature walk excursion- 1 ½ hrs.
Join the island naturalist for a leisurely 1 ½ mile walk through the
tropical paradise. No shade!

An invigorating but enjoyable kayak adventure on Bone Fish Lagoon. Fully

Board a skiff & head for the island's exclusive interior Bone Fish Lagoon.
Must wade in knee deep water. Spinning rods used. Catch and release.

Deep Sea Fishing excursion- 2 hrs.
Fish for barracuda, wahoo, mahi mahi, snapper, grouper in the waters off the
island. One fighting chair. Catch & release.
Certified one tank scuba dive - 1 ½ hrs.
One tank dive 25ft-40ft. Must bring valid card. Only 6 spots.

Snorkel by boat excursion- 1 ½ hrs. (45 min. snorkel time)
Visit a prime snorkel site just off the coast of the island. Gear provided.
No experience necessary.

Travel by boat with guide through Bone Fish Lagoon. The unique boat has a
glass bottom viewer.
